Toy Dogs Group - Yorkshire Terrier
![]() The Yorkshire Terrier, orYorkie, is a comparatively recent breed, having been developed in Yorkshire, England, within the last hundred years or so as a cross of a Skye Terrier and the now extinct Black and Tan Terrier. The Maltese and Dandic Dinmont may also have contributed. Today, this lively little terrier is one of the most popular toy breeds in the world. Alongside the Chihuahua, it is one of the world's smallest dogs, but there arc many larger specimens, which are admirably happy and healthy, and make good pets. Coat: Glossy, fine, and silky. Color: Dark steel blue (not silver blue) extending from back of head to root of tail, never mingled with fawn, bronze, or dark hairs; face, chest, and feet rich, bright tan. Features: Small head, Hat on top; medium-size, dark, sparkling eyes; small V-shape ears carried erect; compact body; tail usually docked to medium length. Size: Height: about 9 in. Weight: not exceeding 7 lb. Care: Intricate grooming takes much time and effort. Character: Suited to town or country and, like most small terriers, utterly fearless. This bossy, inordinately affectionate and lively little dog makes a fine pet.
