Herding Dog Group - Welsh Corgi Cardigan
![]() The Welsh Corgi Cardigan has a similar history to the more popular Pembroke, and until the 1930s both Welsh Corgis were interbred. The Cardigan is heavier boned and larger bodied, and is easily distinguished from the Pembroke by its long, bushy, fox-like tail. Coat: Short or medium length, widi a hard texture; short, thick undercoat. Color: Any, with or without white markings, but white should not predominate over other colors. Features: Head foxy in shape and appearance; medium-size eyes; upright ears; chest moderately broad with prominent breast bone; tail bushy, set in line with body. Size Height at withers: 10½ - 12½ in. Weight: dogs 30 - 38 lb, bitches 25 - 34 lb. Care: Tendency to put on weight, so exercise regularly; water-resistant coat needs daily brushing. Character: Active and devoted. Said to have a slightly more equable temperament than the Pembroke.
