Terriers Dog Group - Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier
![]() One of the oldest native dog breeds of Ireland, the Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier is believed to be a cross of the Irish and Kerry Blue Terriers. Developed to hunt rabbits, rats, and other prey, it will work any kind of covert and no respectable Irish farmer would be without one. Coat: Soft and silky. Color: A good, clear wheaten, the shade of ripening wheat; white and red considered equally objectionable. Features: Head and skull flat and moderately long; clear, bright, dark hazel eyes; V-shape cars; compact body; tail customarily docked. Size: Height at withers: dogs 18-19½. in, bitches slightly less. Weight: 35-45 lb. Care: Revels in plenty of exercise; coat should be groomed regularly using a metal comb and a wire brush. Character: Best indoors as a family pet; gentle, affectionate, and devoted, and generally loves children.
