Terriers Dog Group - Skye Terrier

Skye Terrier

Developed to go to ground after badgers, foxes, otters, and rabbits, the Skye Terrier is said to originate from the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

Coat: Long, hard, straight, flat, and free from curl, with a short, close, soft, woolly undercoat.

Color: Black, dark or light gray, fawn or cream, all with black points.

Features: Head and skull long and powerful; brown, preferably dark, eyes; prick or drop ears; long, low body with level back; when tail is hanging, upper part pendulous and lower part thrown back in a curve, when raised looks like extension of the back line.

Size: Ideal height at shoulders: dogs 10 in, bitches 9½ in. Weight: 25 lb.

Care: Long coat requires a considerable amount of grooming.

Character: Suspicious of or uninterested in anyone other than its owners.
