![]() The Shiba Inu is an ancient Japanese breed-remains of a dog of this type were found in ruins dating back to 500 BC. It is the smallest of the spitz dogs, and its name means "little dog" in the Nagano dialect. Coat: Harsh, straight. Color: Red, salt and pepper, black, black and tan, or white. Features: Agile, sturdily built, and well muscled; deep chest; long back; almond-shape eyes; long sickle tail. Size: Height at shoulders: dogs 15-16 in, bitches 14-15 in. Weight:20-30 lb. Needs a fair amount of exercise and a good daily brushing to keep it looking trim. Character: The Shiba is an affectionate, friendly, and sensitive dog that makes a fine pet as well as a show dog and/or hunter.
