Herding Dog Group - Rough Collie
![]() The Rough Collie, sometimes called the Scots or Scottish Collie, is still best known as the star of the "Lassie" films. Identical to the Smooth Collie, apart from the length of its coat, the Rough Collie is much more common. Coat: Very dense, straight outer coat harsh to touch, with soft, furry, close undercoat. Color: Sable and white, tricolor, blue merle (not in UK shows). Features: Head should appear light in proportion to body; medium-size, almond-shape eyes; cars small and not too close together; body slightly long in relation to height; long tail. Size: Height at shoulders: dogs 22 - 25½ in, bitches 20 - 24 in. Weight: dogs 45 - 75 lb, bitches 40 - 65 lb. Care: Needs plenty of exercise and space but, despite the long coat, it is not difficult to groom. Character: Intelligent, hardy, has keen eyesight. Affectionate to its owners, it is easy to train and makes a good guard dog.
