Hounds Dog Group - Rhodesian Ridgeback
![]() Named after Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, in southern Africa, this breed has a ridge of hair growing in the reverse direction down the middle of its back. It is also known as the Lion Dog because packs of them were used to hunt lions. Coat: Short, dense, sleek, and glossy. Color: Light wheatcn to red wheaten. Features: Flat skull, broad between ears; round eyes, set moderately well apart; cars set rather high; chest very deep but not too wide: tail strong at root and tapering toward tip. Size: Height at withers: dogs 25-26½ in, bitches 24-26 in. Weight: 66-75 lb. Care: Needs plenty of exercise and daily grooming with a hound glove. Character: Obedient, good with children and will guard its owners with its life. May move suddenly, when it spies a rabbit.
