![]() The Poitevin was developed in the late 1600s in south-west France as a wolf hunter, possessing great speed, courage, and scenting ability. Coat: Short and glossy. Color: Tricolor with black saddle; tricolor with large black patches; sometimes orange and white or badger-pied. Features: Head long but not exaggerated; large, brown, expressive eyes: medium-width ears; very deep chest: back well muscled and very well coupled; medium-length, fine, smooth tail. Size: Height at shoulders: 24-28 in. Weight: 66 lb. Care: Best looked after by professional hunt staff. Character: Large, distinguished hound, swift and intelligent, but timid and reserved. Happiest in a pack.
