Pointer

The Pointer is famed for its classic stance, pointing with nose and tail in the direction of game. Popular around the world, it is thought to have originated in Spain or England, through crossings of Foxhound, Bloodhound, and Greyhound.

Coat: Short, dense, and smooth.

Color: Lemon and white, orange and white, liver and white, black and white; self (pure) colors and tricolors also correct.

Features: Medium-width head with pronounced stop; dark, round, intense eyes; ears set on level with eyes; thin, sloping shoulders; deep chest; tail thicker at root, tapering to a point.

Size: Height at withers: dogs 25-28 in, bitches 23-26 in. Weight: dogs 55-75 lb, bitches 45-65 lb.

Care: Needs regular brushing, plenty of exercise, and is not suited to town life.

Character: Sportman's companion and family pet; affectionate, obedient, easy to train, and good with children.
