![]() The Manchester Terrier's ancestors were sporting terriers that would kill rats in a pit for the amusement of spectators in the mid-19th century, a sport popular in Manchester and other areas in northern England. Coat: Close, smooth, short, and glossy. Color: Jet black and rich tan. Features: Long, fiat, narrow skull; small, dark, sparkling eyes; small, V-shape cars; chest narrow and deep; short tail, set on where arch of hack ends. Size: Height at shoulders: dogs 16in, bitches 15 in. Weight: 12-22 lb. Care: The only grooming required is a daily brush and rubdown. Character: Long-lived; a one-person animal, often chosen as companion by older dog-lovers. Also a good family pet.
