Toy Dogs Group - Maltese

A member of the bichon family, this small, white dog is one of the oldest lap dogs, popular with men and women. It has existed on the island of Malta for centuries, and also found its way to China and the Philippines via Maltese traders.

Color: White; slight lemon markings on ears permissible.

Features: Slightly rounded, broad skull; well-defined stop; slightly tapered muzzle; long, well-feathered cars; oval eyes; compact body; long, plumed tail carried high, arched over back.

Size: Height at withers: not exceeding 10 in. Weight: 4-6 lb, not exceeding 7 lb.

Care: Requires daily grooming with a bristle brush.

Character: Happy, healthy, long-lived; a lovable pet.
