![]() Established in Spain, France, and Germany since the 16th century, the Lowchen, or Little Lion Dog, featured in Goya's portrait of the Duchess of Alba. Traditionally given a lion clip, similar to that sported by the exhibition poodle, the Lowchen does look like a lion in miniature, complete with mane and tufted tail. Coat: Moderately long and wavy. Color: Any color or combination of colors considered permissible. Features: Wide, short skull; long pendent ears, well fringed; round, dark eyes with intelligent expression; short, strong body; medium-length tail, clipped to resemble a plume or feather duster. Size: Height at withers: 10-13 in. Weight: 8-18 lb. Care: Requires daily brushing. Character: Affectionate, intelligent, and lively; a good pet.
