Herding Dog Group - Lancashire Heeler

Lancashire Heeler

A sporting dog and dispeller of vermin, the Lancashire Heeler was developed to herd cattle by nipping at their heels, but it also has strong terrier instincts and is an excellent rabbitcr and ratter.

Coat: Short and smooth.

Color: Black and tan, with rich tan markings on muzzle, in spots on checks and often above eyes, from knees downwards, with desirable thumb-mark above feet, inside legs, and under tail.

Features: Richness of tan may fade with age. White to be discouraged, except for a very small white spot on forechest which is permitted but not desirable.

Size: Height at shoulders: dogs 12 in, bitches 10 in. Average weight: 8 - 12 lb.

Care: Requires an average amount of exercise and daily brushing.

Character: A happy, affectionate little dog, which gets on well with humans and other pets.
