Terriers Dog Group - Kerry Blue Terrier

Kerry Blue Terrier

Originating in County Kerry, southwestern Ireland, the Kerry Blue Terrier is an excellent sporting dog and fine swimmer. Its ancestors are thought to have included the Irish, Bedlington, and Bull Terriers. According to legend, it traces its lineage back to a blue terrier which was so ferocious that it killed every opponent. The Kerry Blue is certainly not a dog it is wise to encounter off the lead when exercising a Chihuahua!

Coat: Soft, spiky, plentiful, and wavy.

Color: Any shade of blue, with or without black points; a small white patch on chest should not be penalized.

Features: Eyes as dark as possible; small to medium-size, V-shape ears; short-coupled body with good depth of brisket and well-sprung ribs; tail set on high and carried erect, customarily docked.

Size: Height: dogs 18-19½. in, bitches 17½-19 in. Weight: 33-40 1b.

Care:Needs daily grooming with a stiff brush and metal-tooth comb.

Character: Mainly kept as a pet. It is good with children, while retaining excellent guarding qualities. However, it may display a fierce temper against dogs or other pets when roused.
