Gundogs Group - Irish Red and White Setter
![]() The Irish Red and White Setter evolved from spaniels, probably red and white spaniels, that were brought to Ireland from France and crossed with pointers. Coat: Flat, straight, and finely textured with good feathering. Color: Clearly particolored with pearl white base and solid red patches; mottling and flecking, but not roaning, permitted arounel face and feet, and up foreleg to elbow and up hind leg as far as hock. Features: Head broad in proportion to body; hazel or dark brown eyes; ears set level with eyes; body strong and muscular; tail strong at root and tapering to fine point. Size: Height: 23½-21 in. Weight: 40-70 lb. Care: Needs space and plenty of exercise; requires daily brushing. Character: Happy, good-natured and affectionate, a sportsman's dog and family pet.
