Herding Dog Group - Hungarian Puli
![]() One of the best known of the Hungarian sheepdogs, the Puli is said to be a descendant of sheepdogs and over 1000 years old. It has herded sheep and, more recently, has been used for police work. Coat: Dense and weatherproof; outer coat wavy or curly, undercoat soft and woolly. Color: Black, rusty black, white, or various shades of gray and apricot, overall appearance of solid color. Features: Small, fine head with slightly domed skull; medium-size eyes; cars set slightly below top of skull; withers slightly higher than level of back; medium-length tail curling over loins. Size: Height at withers: dogs 16 - 17½ in, bitches 14½ - 16 in. Weight: dogs 28½ - 33 lb, bitches 22 - 28½ lb. Care: Requires a good amount of exercise and the cords of its coat have to be separated by hand, brushed, and combed. Character: A loyal, devoted, obedient, and intelligent dog, good with other pets, and slow to anger, it is reserved with humans outside its own family.
