![]() The name Hovawart comes from the German "Hofewart," meaning estate or watch dog, but its role is mainly that of a companion dog. Coat: Medium soft, fairly long, and close to the body. Color: Black and gold, blond and black. Features:Strong bead, broad, convex forehead; ears triangular and set on high; body longer than height at withers, tail well feathered and carried low. Size: Height: dogs 24-27'/; in, bitches 23- 25/in. Weight: dogs 66 88 lb, bitches about 55 77 lb. Care: Requires sufficient space and a firm hand in training. Character: An excellent guard dog, home-loving, fond of children, and easy to train. Will respond aggressively when provoked. Tends to be a one-man dog and is slow to mature. Requires a firm hand.
