Hounds Dog Group - greyhound
![]() The Greyhound is arguably the purest breed on Earth, appearing to have changed little from dogs depicted on the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs. It is also mentioned in the Holy Bible in the Book of Solomon. It is likely that the Greyhound was brought by Celts to Britain, where it became a favorite with nobility in the 11th and 14th centuries. Possessing keen eyesight and capable of great speed, this sighthound was highly valued as a courser and, more recently, as a competitor on the racing track. Coat: Fine and close. Color: Black, white, red, blue, fawn, fallow brindlc, or any of these colors broken with white. Features: Long, moderately broad head; bright, intelligent eyes: small, close-shape ears; long, elegant neck; deep, capacious chest; long tail set on rather low. Size: Height: dogs 28-30 in, bitches 28 in. Weight: dogs 65-70 lb, bitches 60-65 lb. Care: Needs a daily brush and regular exercise on hard ground; it takes up relatively little space, having a liking for its own special corner. Character: Gentle, faithful, good with children, the Greyhound chases anything that moves.
