Great Gascony Blue

The Great Gascony Blue is famed for its ability to pick up a "cold" scent. Descending from the scenting dogs of pre-Roman times, it was probably brought to North America by French explorers in the 17th century, and, in 1785, General Lafayette gave a small pack to George Washington, who also bred them.They were crossed with other American hounds to produce a breed with improved tracking ability and stamina.

Coat: Short, smooth, weather resist.ml, and somewhat coarse.

Color: White with black patches and extensive black ticking to give appearance ol blue dog; tan markings on head.

Features: Large, elongated head; ears set low, elongated and folded; chest deep and slightly rounded; legs long and muscular; tail well set on, slight upward curl.

Size: Height: dogs 25-28 in, bitches 23½.-25½ in. Weight: 71-77 lb.

Care: Requires a great deal of exercise and is not a suitable housepet. It should he groomed regularly and the long cars chei I'd frequently.

Character: The Great Gascony Blue has B calm and friendly temperament.
