Hounds Dog Group - Grand Griffon Vendeen
![]() The Griffons Vendeen arc French sporting dogs. They occur in a number of varieties of which the Grand Griffon Vendeen is the largest and reputed to be the oldest. It is thought to be a descendant of a white Saint Hubert Hound crossed with a tawny and white Italian bitch, and the resultant dogs were known as the King's White Dogs. Coat: Rough, long, and harsh to the touch, with a thick undercoat. Color: Solid fawn or hare; white with red, fawn, gray, or black markings: bicolor or tricolor. Features: Domed head; large, dark eyes, without white, and with a kindly expression; narrow, supple cars; long, wide back; tail set on high, and strong at the base. Size: Height at shoulders: 24-26 in. Weight: 66-77 lb. Care: Requires a considerable amount of exercise, and regular grooming with brush and comb to prevent its coat from matting. Character: Extremely attractive, intelligent dogs which make good family pets as well as hunters. They are independent and love to wander, so all escape routes should be scaled.
