Gundogs Group - Gordon Setter
![]() Scotland's only gundog, the Gordon was bred in the late 1770s from Bloodhound and Collie. Gordons are not so fast or stylish as other setters. Coat: Short and fine on head, fronts of legs, and tips of cars; moderately long over rest of body, flat and free from curl. Color: Deep, shining coal black, without rustincss, and with lustrous tan (chestnut red) markings; black pencilling on toes, and black streak under jaw permissible. Features: Head deep rather than broad; dark brown eyes; medium-size ears; body of moderate length; tail straight or slightly curved, not too long. Size: Height at shoulders: dogs 24-27 in, bitches 23-26 in. Weight: dogs 55-80 lb, bitches 45-70 lb. Care: Needs plenty of space and lots of exercise, and not best suited to town life. Character: A tireless worker, able to withstand heat better than other setters. Good as gundog as well as family pet, and a better watchdog than other setters.
