![]() This popular Scottish terrier has been known and used for putting down vermin for 1 SO years or more. It was named after the cairns (a Scottish word denoting a heap or pile of stones), which often harbored mice or rats. Coat: Profuse, harsh, but not coarse, with short, soft, close undercoat. Color: Cream, wheaten, red, gray, or nearly black; brindling acceptable in all these colors; not solid black, solid white, nor black and tan; dark points, such as ears and muzzle, very typical. Features: Small head; eyes set wide apart; small, pointed ears; level back; short, balanced tail, well furnished with hair but not feathery Size: Height: 9½-12 in. Weight: 13-16 lb. Care: Enjoys plenty of exercise; requires little grooming other than brushing, combing, and removing of excess feathering. Character: Intelligent, lively, affectionate, and effective for getting rid of vermin.
