Toy Dogs Group - Brussels Griffon

Brussels Griffon

The Brussels Griffon was once kept by Brussels cab drivers to rid their stables of vermin. It became a companion breed by virtue of its appealing character. The smooth-coated Petit Brabancon probably owes its existence to the introduction of pug blood.

Coat: Brussels Griffon Harsh, wiry. Petit Brabancon Soft, smooth.

Color: Red, black, or black and rich tan with white markings.

Features: Head, large in comparison to body, rounded, in no way domed, wide between the cars; eyes black rimmed, very dark; body, short back, level from withers to tail root, neither reaching nor dipping; tail, customarily docked short, carried high.

Size: Height: 7-8 in. Weight: 5-11 lb, most desirable 6-10 lb.

Care: The coat of the rough requires a lot of attention; coats may be clipped.

Character: Intelligent and cheerful. Makes a fine companion.
