Herding Dog Group - Briard
![]() The best known of the French sheepdogs, the Briard is reputed to have come to Europe with Asian invaders before the end of the Middle Ages. Coat: Long and slightly wavy, and dry to the touch, with a fine, dense undercoat. Color: Solid black, or with white hairs; fawn; may have dark shading on cars, muzzle, back, and tail. Features: Strong, slightly rounded skull; dark eyes, set wide apart and horizontally placed; cars set on high; hack firm and level; broad chest; long, wcllTcathcrcd tail that has an upward hook at the tip. Size: Height at withers: dogs 23-27 in, bitches 22-25½ in. Weight: about 75 lb. Care: Takes pride in cleaning itself, but needs regular brushing. Requires plenty of exercise and space. Character: Makes a good family pet or farm dog. Good with children, intelligent, and fearless.
