Herding Dog Group - Bearded Collie
![]() The Bearded Collie is believed to be one of the oldest herding dogs in Scotland. It is descended from purebred Polish Lowland Sheepdogs. Coat: Flat, harsh, and shaggy; can be slightly wavy but not curly; soft, furry, close undercoat. Color: Slate gray, reddish fawn, black, blue, all shades of gray, brown, or sandy, with or without white markings. Features: Broad, flat head; eyes toning with coat color; drooping ears; long body; tail set low, without a kink or twist. Size: Height at withers: dogs 21 - 22 in, bitches 20 - 21 in. Weight: 40 - 60 lb. Care: Enjoys plenty of exercise; requires daily brushing, very little combing, and the occasional bath. Character: The Beardie is an alert, self-confident, and active dog, good-natured and reliable with children. It makes a good pet.
