Hounds Dog Group - Basenji

The Basenji, which means "bush thing," comes from central Africa. It is famous for being the only dog without a bark.

Coat: Short, sleek, close, and very fine.

Coior: Black, red, or black and tan; all should have white on chest, on feet, and tall tips; white blaze, collar, and legs optional; black and tan with tan melon pips and hlacll, tan, and white mask.

Features: Dark, almond-shape eyes; small, pointed cars; well-balanced body with short, level back: tail set on high, curling tightly over spine and lying close to thigh, with a single or double curve.

Size: Height: 16-17 in. Weight: 21-24 lb.

Care: Needs only a daily rub-down.

Character: Playful, loving, and intelligent. Pups may be destructive.
