Herding Dog Group - Australian Kelpie
![]() Descended from short-haired, prick-eared collies imported from Scotland, the Kelpie is a superb working sheepdog, able to sustain itself without water for considerable periods of time. Coat: A close outer coat and short, dense undercoat. Color: Black, black and tan, red, red and tan, fawn, chocolate, and smoke blue, with or without tan. Features: Almond-shape eyes; prick ears; ribs well sprung; hindquarters show breadth and strength; tail hangs in slight curve. Size: Height at shoulders: about 20 in. Weight: about 30 lb. Care: Requires considerable exercise and vigorous daily brushing. Character: A fine sheepdog and a good, loyal companion.
