Hounds Dog Group - Ariegeois
![]() The Ariegeois, originating in the Aricgc, a French province on the Spanish border, is the result of a crossing between the native medium-size hounds, the Gascon Saintongcois and the Gascony Blue. While not a very fast hound, it docs have stamina and a keen nose, and this intelligent, eager worker has hunted hare throughout this century. Coat: Fine and close. Color: Usually white with black markings and small tan spots over eyes; black puppies occasionally occur; rich tan should not be normally encouraged. Features: Long, light, narrow head with no wrinkle or dew lap; dark eyes well open and with a sweet expression; fine supple cars; back generally level and well supported; tail well attached and carried "saber" fashion. Size: Height at shoulders: dogs 22-24 in, bitches 21-23 in. Weight: 66 lb. Care: Requires a lot of exercise. Its short coat requires little attention. Character: Finely built with a calm disposition and friendly expression, and altogether a most pleasant animal.
