Every year, lots of Bulldogs are abandoned, lost or surrendered to rescue centers. Rescue centers examine the Bulldog for their health, social, emotional and behavioral activities, when they arrive at the rescue center. They take all the necessary steps for their well being including their medical treatment and training so they can adjust into new home.

Before adopting a bulldog, you must consider some things

The Bulldogs that come through the rescue program are not always in a good condition in terms of health and behavior. They suffer from various health and temperament problems and that’s why their owners could have abandoned them. They are not very happy and well-adjusted. Some of them are very aggressive and can not be placed with children or other animals. You need to have time and patience to work with their social, emotional and behavioral problems. You will have to take care of their health issues also. Bulldogs have various skin ailments, respiratory problems and recurring infections. If you are considering adoption as a cheap means to have a bulldog, you are mistaken. You will have to shell good amount of money to keep them fit. You will also have to provide them some training in order to make them obedient. They need regular exercises and daily walks. They need to be kept indoors because they can not sustain hot or humid weather well.

Adopting an adult bulldog is better than considering a puppy

Generally, people want to take bulldog puppy instead of adopting an adult bulldog. But, how many of you know that every year a large number of adoptable Bulldogs are killed. If you buy a puppy from a pet store or from a breeder, you also contribute to this tragic thing. Rescue centers providing adoption work very hard and sincerely to get these rescued Bulldogs to a good and stable home.

Bulldog Puppy requires more attention and care than the adult one. You will require consistent housebreaking efforts.

On the other hand, an adult dog doesn’t need that much housebreaking efforts. Rescued Bulldogs are mostly housetrained. Bulldog rescue groups ensure that their rescued adult Bulldogs for adoption are housebroken before they go to their new homes.

Puppies are very cute for sure, but they are very frisky and sometimes destructive in nature whereas rescued adult Bulldogs are well trained for adoption so that they can behave well in indoors.

Waiting time for the rescued Bulldog Adoption

You may have to wait for a rescued bulldog just for a week or more than a year depending upon your criteria. If you want to adopt a healthy and well-trained Bulldog, you might have to wait for a long time. Because rescued bulldogs have various health, social, emotional and behavioral problems, which need to be taken care of.
