Dog CollarDog callers are not as simple as they seem. There are various kinds of dog collars available in the market to suit different functions and needs. Various dogs need to be harnesses using different dog collars. The intelligent and independent dog breeds such as boxer requires fair and firm training to learn good manners. After proper training these dogs can be friendly and quite useful, but they don't like to be ordered around. So choose a right collar for your dog. Here are information about different types of collars. Head Halters: Head halters are used for the dogs that pull. These collars are placed right below the eyes of the dog so that it is uncomfortable for many dogs. It should not be confused for muzzles as they allow the dog to eat, drink, bark or bite. It is used when your dog is walking at your side and not trying to escape from you. Prong or Pinch Collars: These are training collars and are much safer than the chocker as they do not cause back, neck and tr4acjeal injuries. They may get worn and stretched and thus spring open, they can only be used with a back up collar hooked to the leash. Harnesses: This type of collars are used for carting and sled dogs to help them pull and to distribute weight evenly. It enables the dog to pull many times its own body weight. Quick-Release Collars: These collars are adjustable and do not tighten around dog's neck. They have plastic fastenings that help to put on and take off the collar quickly. Choke Chains: These are also known as metal training slip collars and used as the primary training tools for the dog. These are used to give a jerk to the dog when it is not obeying a command. But sometimes dog may cause back, neck and tracheal injuries and may also cause them trauma. These are the training collars and must not be used on puppies. Electronic Collars: These are also called as remote collars or shock collars which delivers a electrical stimulus to the dog in training as a correction method. The intensity of stimulus starts from low to high as per the disobedience of the dog. These types of collars should only be used by professionals for training purpose. Slip Collars: Also known as choke chains or chokers. They can be made of cotton, braided nylon, metal or leather and have 'O' rings at either end. It is looped through one of the rings. The collar can be tightened and loosened with pressure from the lead. Attaching the lead to the floating ring or the dead ring will prevent the collar from tightening. Buckle Collars: Buckle collars are made up of cotton, nylon or leather and used to fasten the dogs. The can be both rolled and flat and are quite adjustable and do not strangle dogs. As rolled collars avoid chafing or hair breakage, so better than flat collars. |
